On April 5th, 2008, TaC celebrated its first wedding! Pamela O'honde our executive director married David Steele, one of the charity's trustees, at New Road Baptist Church in Oxford. It was attended by many friends and family including other TaC staff and supporters. David and Pam chose to ask friends to donate to TaC in lieu of wedding presents and raised over £3,000. David and Pam are very grateful to all their friends and family who celebrated their wedding and gave so generously. David says, "It was a special day for us and marked a new beginning in our lives. We wanted to use the opportunity to help orphaned children have a new beginning too. We are amazed by peoples' generosity. TaC received over £3,000 for which we are very grateful.". Teach a Child-Africa board member, Dr Foyeke Christiana Tolani, with a passion for the organization's mission celebrated her 40th birthday in style with a theme of "sowing seeds that benefits others" where she encouraged her guests to consider donating whatever little they had to support the work of Teach a Child-Africa. Within 10 minutes a record £200 was collected, with more money sent afterwards which later reached £250, enough to pay for one child's secondary school fees for one year. "Birthdays are a time to reflect on God's faithfulness in preserving and blessing our lives. I am grateful to God for His goodness to me and it is a reminder that I should be good to others. I hope I can seize every opportunity that comes my way to be good and encourage others to do likewise", said Foyeke. David Steele who was one of the guests at this party knowing what David Potts was able to achieve with his Cake sale last May, and what Foyeke has been able to do has felt very challenged that has threatened to break their records.....watch this space for what he is going to do and when.
A friend of mine volunteered to work with AIDS orphans in Johannesburg last year and after hearing about her experiences I really wanted to do something to help. When my fiancee and I were planning our wedding we decided to ask people to donate to charity instead of buying us presents. Teach a Child seemed like a wonderful cause to support. We're delighted that TAC is opening up new opportunities for children orphaned through AIDs to continue their education and we hope that this will make more people aware of their exciting work. - Jen, Sept 2007 Phil and Jen married in September 2007. They raised £530 which will pay for the education of two children in 2008. TaC is grateful for their generosity and wishes them well for the future.
